Capturing your look
Headshot photography to boost yourself, your team, your cause

About us
Silver Shooter studio
A HEADSHOT is the draw for your LinkedIn page, social media bios and company directory.
A good picture gets you noticed; a great one sets you apart.
I’m Glen Johnson, and my goal at Silver Shooter is to take the best photo of you you’ve ever seen.
We can do that together, regardless of your age or gender, whether you want something for personal or professional use.
I’ve worked to make this simple, from start to finish. You’ll book online, we’ll meet in a bright studio and I’ll deliver your images electronically, in the exact size and shape you need.
I also have a relationship with a local hair and makeup artist, so you step in front of the camera with that just-from-the-salon look.
I’ve studied under world-acclaimed headshot specialist Peter Hurley and utilize his unique lighting and posing techniques.
Peter’s training is rigorous and his standards high. My fellow photographers and I critique each other’s work, and Peter hosts weekly training and Headshot-of-the-Month contests so we all can push each other to take even better photos.
In a previous life, I was a nationally known political reporter for the Associated Press and Boston Globe. I then joined the State Department and helped plan, communicate and chronicle all of John Kerry’s travels as secretary of State.
Along the way, I took over 100,000 official photos from the Kremlin and Vatican to Africa and Antarctica. They lined the agency’s hallways and filled its online accounts.
Dozens were later published in my award-winning book about 21st century diplomacy, “Window Seat on the World.”
Now, I’m aiming to capture the best image of you!

A headshot is a photo showing from the tip of a subject’s head down to their sternum.
It can be against a variety of backgrounds, with white, black and gray being the most popular.
I use a unique lighting technique to show men and women at their individual best.
We’ll review your photos on a monitor throughout your session, so we can make any adjustments desired.
We’ll keep going until you’re 100% satisfied. Then you can make your final selections on the spot.

FAQs

Dress totally depends on the image you’re trying to convey. Suits and dresses or pant suits are great for business men and women, while open-collar shirts or blouses are good for a more casual presentation. Most important is keeping colors and patterns simple (whether for shirts or jackets), so as not to distract from the face. Light blue shirts are good for people with paler skin, while white shirts are good for those with darker skin tones. A few, select pieces of jewelry and a contrasting tie can help boost the image without overshadowing the face.
-
I can connect you with an experienced local hair and makeup artist to help you prep for your shoot. Regardless, it’s best to have your hair cut a week or so before your session, so it settles into a more natural look by the time of your appointment. If you want to do your makeup yourself, don’t overdo it; just a little more than normal usually looks right. Think: wedding rather than office look.

Sheer terror, followed by fun! Almost everyone feels self-conscious in front of a camera, so part of my job is to make you comfortable. You can check your look at my makeup desk or in the bathroom. Quench your thirst with a drink from my beverage fridge. Pick any music you may want in the studio. When we’re ready to shoot, you’ll stand at the focal point of three rectangular lights, looking through them at my camera. I’ll help position you from the feet up, and work to capture a true expression of you. Any tension subsides as we stop and look at the first few frames I’ve captured on my studio monitor. That will show we’re going somewhere good!
-
While we may look at a few frames on my laptop during the shoot, afterwards, we’ll go through the whole shoot together so you can select the photos that most appeal to you. We have to be ruthless in the process, truly being picky about the best of the best, but I won’t stop shooting until we have something that makes you happy. After you pick your keepers, the session is complete.
-
I accept cash, Venmo, ApplePay, personal checks and all major credit cards to pay Image fees (Session fees are collected when you reserve a shooting time).
I have a Square terminal, so you can tap or swipe your credit card on the spot.
You can pay the hair and makeup artist directly.
And since clients sometimes ask, any gratuity is solely at your discretion.
-
Of course! Our goal is to get images that make you proud. Please feel free to share them. Each finished image comes with a full license that allows you to use it where you want, for as long as you want. Two requests: please tag or link back to our studio, and say in the description, “Photo Credit: Glen Johnson.” This will help people find me and the business. Also, remember that Silver Shooter retains the original RAW file and copyright to all images, so I ask that you don’t edit the final jpeg, or take photos of the monitor in the studio. Sharing unfinished or altered images would violate my copyright. Thanks for your cooperation with this!
